The western part of the Tono region, including Mizunami City,
is a production center of Minoyaki with over a thousand years
of history. This is a museum which exhibits its industrial history
along the three themes of history, chemistry, and creation. The
huge water mill which began to be used in the Edo period for
the preparation of materials, and Noborigama, which is a kiln
built along the slope of a mountain, have been restored and are
still in good condition. You are able to observe and learn the
history of pottery and the wisdom of its predecessors. |

The world largest guardian dog with a height of approximately
3.3 m and a total weight of 15 tons was created with the work
of Okawa Gamaユs forth-generation potter, Hashiba Yozaemon Kagetada,
as its model. The idea was conceived by local people at the 35th
anniversary of City of Mizunami, and it was created as a memorial
of sister city relationship between Tomachi Okawa and Takahama
City, located at either end of National Highway 419. Under the
protection of the huge guardian dog, increasingly fond memories
of oneユs travels are sure to be had. |

Aiming at economic enhancement based upon the ceramic business
as the local industry and increased activity within that industry,
the worldユs largest tea jar was made on the grounds of Tomachi
Okawa Hachioji Shrine, along National Highway 363. A tea jar
made here 400 years ago by Hashiba Yozaemon was used as its model.
The worldユs largest tea jar is 5.4 m tall with a 4.0 m diameter,
with 32 tons of clay used in its construction. This is a single
pieced, iron-glazed work created by using porcelain clay. |
